A comp card (also known as a Zed) is like a model's passport. Every serious model should have a great comp card, because on most potential clients will see your comp card before they see you, it's your first impression.

As a model, it would be way too expensive and time consuming to make an effort to go and see every agency or potential client, so instead you send out a comp card. Also a comp card is used to mail out to agents and to leave at castings and interviews. A comp card is one of the first signs that a model is serious about their modeling career, it shows dedication and professionalism. 

A comp card can make or break a model. Bad photography or bad printing can ruin your comp card and ruin your chances at getting an agency or getting a job. Most agents or clients are so busy that they do not have the time to interview everyone for a job, so they use the comp cards to separate the models form the wannabees.
